If you fish for stripers and blues inshore, this is a fantastic rod. It has the backbone to fight heavy fish and the touch and feel needed to throw small plastics, cranks and swims.
I fish the legend tournament inshore and avid inshore for stripers & halibut. Toss lures ranging from 1/4oz-3/4oz and pair with Shimano reels 3000 size 15lb braid. I have found these rods to be quite stiff/beefy for a medium powered rod. Not sure if going to a ML would solve this issue or if it will be too light of a rod for the fishing I do. I have also thought about picking up a medium powered “freshwater” to see if that has more flex to it but would definitely be sacrificing the saltwater resistant components and technology that comes with SCIII+ and SCIV+ rods. If any St. Croix reps/ any other users have any advice, I’m all ears. These rods are top quality however the stiffness of the blank dampens the action and makes it difficult to love this rod. I have come across various threads of users stating the same. Maybe a 7’6 Medium Moderate-Fast in both of these models would give these rods enough flex to sling out lures a mile.
Rod is absolutely beautiful!!!! Color, handle, and guides. Couldn’t be happier!!!
This is now my 6th or 7th st croix rod I believe in the last 2 years. Every single one has broke. I have fished this legand inshore for no more 2 months and it already broke. The epoxy that holds the reel stay onto the blank, fully let go which is a sign of the poor production quality. You would expect better quality for an almost $400 rod.
