This was my second Mojo Inshore rod, purchased from Sunshine Ace Hardware. Unfortunately, within less than 30 days, the first rod mysteriously broke, and I have no idea how it happened. Thankfully, Ace Hardware was kind enough to exchange it for a new one since it was still under 30 days. However, to my dismay, the replacement rod didn’t even last 20 days before it also broke! This has been an incredibly disappointing experience, and I must say, this is the worst rod I’ve ever owned. I am extremely dissatisfied with St. Croix products.
Recently purchased JIS79XHMF from economy tackle in Sarasota fl. I have a bunch of the avid inshore and very pleased with them. But, they were out of stock and I went with the mojo (big mistake) I paired the rod with a slammer dx 4 7500 and 50lb braid. Headed directly to water and drifted crabs back in the pass. First fish my dad hooked snapped the rod at the reel seat sending the new rod and reel into the water still hooked to the tarpon. St croix going to cover the whole setup? If not 25 years of purchasing st. croix rods will come to an end.
Took my 7” mh fast action paired with shimano stradic 3k out to the keys a few years ago and landed a nice bull mahi ~30lbs with a fun fight. I use it constantly for reds trout and even the occasional cat fish. Nothing phases this rod EXCEPT any type of contact to the top foot or so of the rod. I’m on number three over span of 6 years for the same thing every time. The slightest touch of somthing touching the rod and it’s broken. Durable for fishing not for life.
So, I was a little skeptical at first whenever I read all the reviews on the Mojo inshore series; but, due to the unmatched warranty this company has, I decided to give it a try. After 4 trips out with my first Mojo inshore, I can say that this rod is a beast, I paired it with a Penn spinfisher 3500 and took it offshore to target mangroves on some light tackle and i couldn't have been happier with the performance. After catching roughly 15 snapper (all around 18"-22" long), this rod has my confidence. After those couple trips, I went straight to the local Academy and bought two more for my other two reels. I hate that so many other people have had issues with the quality, but I firmly believe a lot of those cases had t be from a bad batch or something. St. Croix has made me a believer, I plan on getting an Avid next and pairing it with some heavier setups soon.
Updating review from July 26- Customer service (Deb) was very helpful with replacing the broken rod. The replacement is an upgrade (Avid) and it is absolutely fantastic for catching speckled trout, redfish, flounder and Spanish Mackerel- highly recommend! I have several St. Croix Triumph rods as well and they are excellent rods for a relatively inexpensive cost.
