Got this rod in December. Used it about 4 times in the span of 6 months. Just a few weeks ago I noticed the split grip was moving by itself (kind of like spinning so every time I would cast, the whole rod would rotate around the cork).
Anyways, called St. Croix and they said it was an internal glue issue. $50 to replace the rod. This is the second rod I’ve had to replace. First rod was my fault as I tried to swing a fluke over a boat rail. Anyways, for something that isn’t my fault (glue), it seems super hurtful that I’d have to pay $50 for shipping and handling.
I submitted a claim nearly 2 months ago and had not heard back. I finally spent a few hours on phone support which left me wanting to change brands. For how expensive this rod is, to miss all of striper season and have to call them with a few hour wait on hold, they to ship a new tip section, then after more discussion waived the shipping fee for the tip. The claim has an option for an upgrade. This actually just means they will charge you for a new rod also, not just that they will charge you to get shipped one tiny section of a poor quality product. Stay away. Awful.
I purchased a 10' 4 piece surf rod for a trip to Panama. I took it out to Lake Michigan in Milwaukee on a warm day before our trip and I broke the tip. After going home (sick to my stomach - as this is the most expensive rod I've purchased to date, and it broke on my first use), I registered it - within the 30 day window. I then filed a warranty claim. I called a few days later to confirm I did everything correctly (you should call if you need warranty service - they don't seem to respond very quickly to the web forms). I asked for the 9'. Unfortunately I got a 2 piece in the mail a couple days later, which didn't really work for me.
I called again, and this time had a rod two business days before my Panama trip.
I have not fished it in salt water yet, but the customer service works really hard and the warranty is something they stand behind.
I took my 9” Triumph Travel Surf rod to the Bahamas for spring break earlier this year. It’s paired with a Penn Battle III 4000 with braided line. Just fit diagonally in my checked suitcase. Worked great on the beach and from the rocks. Great rod. Can’t wait to take it to Florida this winter.
My 9' Triumph Travel Rod has been all over the world with me and will be going to Hawaii again next week. It is a luxurious-feeling travel rod that I always enjoy taking out for a session on the reef - even when I'm at home. It can comfortably handle everything from Surf Perch to Kingfish. I really like the sensitivity of the 9' setup. It feels like something much shorter and more responsive in the hand.
The travel case is brilliant, and St. Croix's service is excellent. I broke a tip off while on holiday (my fault), and was able to get a replacement tip section quickly and easily.
