This rod is perfect to use with my Mitchell reel for Northern Pike & Muskie this year!
The rod is very good quality and I am very happy with it.
Stiff enough to have backbone, enough flex to toss lures as far as needed. Accidentally tried to break the tip off twice by not being careful. Withstood both impacts like a champ. Can't say enough good things about the rod. Still have yet to use it long term but I have no reason to believe this won't hold up well over time.
This rod is my first St. Croix rod ever. I purchased the 7'6" Heavy for musky fishing from a kayak. I did a lot of research for the best musky rod for the money, but also something that I knew was a trusted brand with lots of other people giving it praise. So far, I've been very impressed with this rod. It's everything I wanted and more. It's very light, feels great in the hand, and it's clearly very well designed to be able to handle the rigors of musky fishing. I would definitely recommend this to my musky fishing friends.
I have owned the 8’ and 8’6” Heavy. Both are excellent all around rods, and handle everything south of big rubber. The shorter version shines for topwaters and twitching duty. The longer version is an excellent 8 / 9 bucktail and crankbait stick. I have LT rods too, and while they are better these give you most of that performance at a far lower price. They load and cast well, are time-proven and a great overall value. Particularly if you favor a traditional cork grip and trigger-style reel seat.
