Good rod, breaks

"I've owned this rod for two seasons now. It's broken every year at this time when I'm fishing good size stripers. The first time it broke was probably my own fault. I was lobbing a out of range heavy needlefish and the tip snapped. The second time however I was tossing a prerigged 9" sluggo. It snapped six guides down. I'm guessing the blank got compromised when I was hauling in a few dozen good stripers (35") over the prior 3 days. I'm torn whether or not to put in for warranty. I like the way the rod casts and it's sensitivity - I toss a lot of plastics - but if it breaks once a year-🤯"

I have the 8

"I have the 8 footer. Use it for catching Blue Fish and Striped Bass off the jetty. Going on my second season and pole is going strong. This pole casts a mile for only being 8 feet. It actually throws further than my 9 foot Tsunami. It has so much feel but also a lot of back bone. I am able to pick fish straight up onto the rocks with no net. I wish I had extra money to get the 11 or 12 footer."

Never Buying St. Croix Again – Waste of Money

"Do NOT waste your money on this rod. I paid good money for this St. Croix surf rod  it wasn’t cheap  and it still broke in half mid-cast after less than a year of use. This was a 9-foot medium-light rod, and I wasn’t even casting anywhere near the max weight. It just snapped out of nowhere. What makes it even worse is that I’ve been reaching out to St. Croix’s customer support for over a week, and I’ve received zero response. For a brand that claims to be premium, this level of customer service is beyond disappointing  it’s unacceptable. I could’ve bought an Ugly Stik surf rod for way less money, and I guarantee it would’ve lasted way longer than this one. At this point, I honestly regret not doing that. It’s incredibly frustrating to spend top dollar on a rod that falls apart and then get ignored when you ask for help. If I don’t hear back within the next week or two, this will 100% be the last time I ever buy from St. Croix. Save your money and go with a brand that actually stands behind their gear."

Delivery too forever

"I did not give 5 stars as I was not happy with the long delivery time. They seem to use a third party to handle the delivery process and not just the carrier. Contacted customer support and never responded. Frustrated with lack of communication on the easiest aspect of transaction. Makes you question the quality of everything else. Was consider buying a third rod, but may buy from another manufacturer. Have used on of the two rods purchased and very satisfied."

Rod busted while fighting a striper.

"Rod broke whole fighting a bass in the surf. The fall run on long island NY is hot. The bass were up to the mid 30 pound range. While in battle the upper piece explodes. The fish gets free and im left on the beach staring at a broken fishing pole . Not to mention the dozen or so anglers looking at me . I contact st croix because i am under warranty and for a price they send a new top piece . But it only slides on to the base one inch! I call st croix and talk to Andy. Andy by his word assures me the fit is correct. So, on my 3rd cast with my new top piece snug down all of the one inch and using a mag darter that weighs about an ounce the pole explodes again exactly at the junction where the two pieces join. Total failure from Andy and st croix. Now i have to go through the whole process over but refuse to pay another dime and will request brand new Seage; probably costing me the rest of the fall run. Thanks. . ."

Disappointed

"I purchased this to replace my Mono Surf rod (similar specs), which I had owned for 14 years. In my first outing, while jigging a fast moving outflow current (from shore), I hooked into a fish and the rod tip and proximal frenule snapped. Other fishermen near me also heard the break and couldn’t believe it. I have been fishing this spot for years and have never experienced this kind of break. . Not the same quality as the previous (now discontinued) Mojo Surf, but hoping this was just a lemon. Will consider an upgrade, though bummed it will cost more."

Beast

"I use this rod to cast 8-12 oz spider weights and bait for sharks and has landed 4 this month around the 100-200 pound range"
