"Great quality rod that you can take anywhere with you."
"I purchased my Avid Trek Spinning rod on a Friday and it was delivered the next Wednesday. Super prompt. The rod is beautiful. I won’t have a chance to use it for a while since it is still snowing at times up here in the Rocky Mountains but it is solid and fun just to look at. I like it so much that I ordered another one today."
"Beautiful travel rod in a sturdy case. Came quickly."
"It was a fantastic rod while it lasted. I got it in February, and it was super easy to use while traveling, as it came in 3 pieces, and came with a hard case (which was super generous). But sadly, while fluke fishing, it snapped. not at the guide, just snapped in a random place. this is super surprising because I love St. Croix rods and I owned about 3 of them prior to this. They gave me a replacement, but the customer service wait time was upwards of 3 hours. Being a dedicated customer, I waited. The man was super nice, and gave me tons of options to choose from! I just wished the replacement was paid for :("
"I bought four other travel rods priced up to $200 trying to find one with a true fast action that fishes like a one piece… I wish I had spent all that money on the avid trek series. I have the 6’6†medium rod and it is everything I was looking for. Yes, it’s a little pricy, but I’ll be buying a 7’ medium avid trek as well, and then I will have a pair of travel rods that suit my needs. Thanks St. Croix for making a phenomenal product (again)."
"Been fishing with this rod several time this summer. Landed several nice fish on it and so far have been very impressed with it. It will be going to Florida soon. I bought the M F 7'-0"" and its very versatile. Glad to see a manufacturer making good travel rods."
"Great rod for traveling. The Medium Light works for all sorts of fish species."
"I have over 10K in freshwater rods/reels and a boat load of St. Croix rods. I have 3 treks. The Trek's rod tips break way to easy and although I know I can send it in with $50 fee and get it replaced, knowing how much pressure it took to break it the first time it seems like the engineering is wrong, so not sure I'm even going to mess with it. Big disappointment as I thought for the money it would be a bit tougher. On the positive side the sensitivity is impressive for a 3 piece near the $300 range. However I have over 15 St. Croix's and I've never had another St. Croix break until I tried the Trek. It did work well taking as carry on with Alaska Airlines, but I'm glad I took 5 rods on my trip as the Trek broke on the first snag; could I have been more gentle? of course I could have, but dang this wasn't my first snag in life either. I think the Sockeye I caught a few minutes later would have also snapped it too."
"Just completed my first trip with the 7’ ML spin Avid Trek. There’s a lot to like about this rod, with a couple areas for improvement. The case itself is excellent. Easy to carry on an airplane and stow in an overhead compartment. The instructions printed on the inside of the lid on how to store the 3 sections is a nice touch. High quality case overall. Now the rod. I’ve owned a wide array of st croix products. From bass X to both avid lines, victory, legend tournament, and a couple g loomis rods. The performance of this trek model is right in line with my other one piece rods. The sections fit snugly and with my ML setup, finesse baits, and braid, sensitivity was excellent and on par if not better than my other SCiii rods. Extremely lightweight and comfortable to tote around bank hopping or trekking through a marsh (as I was doing for Carolina red fish) I didn’t my largest red this trip was 26†and a few pounds so I’ll be interested to see how this model handles a larger beasts. Now improvements…. I cannot understand why any +300 rod should have exposed threads on the handle. It leads to unnecessary discomfort and can easily be avoided with different handle construction. I actually put some shrink wrap on some of the threads to improve comfort. I’d also like to see a guide to ensure sections are lined up straight. Solid rod overall… just fix that dang handle!"
"In 4 months I have gone through 4 avid trek 3 piece rods. I love that they pack down easy to hike into the river. But as far as quality goes I would advise anyone to avoid this rod. I have had 4 rods break at the tip on the eyelid joint. Each rod lasted about one month if I was lucky. For the price of this rod I would reccomend you avoid it or you will be dissatisfied just like I was with a broken tip on the river. Ontop of that the so called 15 year warranty means nothing because they charge you $50 dollars plus shipping to replace the top piece of the 3 piece rod that keeps snapping. I have owed St Croix rods my whole life never had a problem but this avid trek 3 piece is by far the worst quality rod I have ever seen them make do yourself a favor and don't buy this unless you like dealing with warranty claims over and over again."
