Awesome Rod; Fatal flaw

I’ve been an avid user of St Croix’s economy end of rods like the mojo bass and this, the bass x, and have been extremely happy with the rods I’ve bought. This one had worked wonderfully up until the upper half of the reel seat broke loose. However, St Croix has an amazing warranty program so they quickly remedied my issue and have been nothing short of amazing this entire time. My advice: buy another rod, but buy a St Croix

Not a fan

I am a big fan of St Croix and I still am but I just had failure of 2 of 3 of these rods last week. I purchased 3 Bass X (6'6", 7'1" and 7'4" Medium heavy fast action) from Tackle Warehouse on 2/12/24. We just returned after a 5 day trip to El Salto Mexico. I have had a couple Avid bass rods that are amazing and have served me well for many many years. But I brought my son this year for the first time and tried the Bass X rods for the great price point and brand reputation. He is new to the sport and I was trying to contain costs where possible. Two of the rods failed and both proved unusable. Both were related to adhesive failure. One was on the rod seat resulting in a new Shimano Curado DC reel falling to the bottom of the lake. The second was an adhesive failure of the handle causing the reel seat to turn making the rod unusable. We tried to fix them with tape and tac glue but I was worried about another issue so I kept them at the lodge. So unfortunately, I would not personally buy the Bass X again. If you have the means, I would start shopping at the Avid and up. That said, the third Bass X rod worked well and the action, sensitivity and performance was what you would expect from St Croix.

Fixed

These new rods are the deal. Issue solved. Went through three of the old ones, but you replaced them each time. Thank you Ken in Customer Service. Really like the new ones and the color is solid.

Bass x

Ive had a few rods in my lifie most cheaper or inherited glass rods i went with a bass x 7'1" medium fast as my first carbon rod. It has quickly become my favorite rod i almost never go without it, the action is great and consistent. the seats have been strong so far, I have a few new shimano and i had an abu for awhile every few casts i had to check and make sure they didnt come loose. Over all a great rod.

Good rod

I got the 6'8 MXF for smallmouth fishing and it does the job -- I have no complaints. Rod is light, alittle faster action than I expected but it is a extra fast so you get what you pay for. I've had mine for over two years and it's been out on the water many times and I never have had an issue.
